ABOUT ENSEMBLE
The folk songs and dances ensemble VONIČKA from Havířov was founded in 1991. Its 59 members form three equal components: dance, music and singing. It is established by the association VONIČKA Havířov, z.s.
Vonička focuses on the dissemination and preservation of folklore traditions in the region of Těšín Silesia and Lachia. The dancers are divided into three age categories and the musicians form two dulcimer bands with typical musical instruments. Folklore material is treated in authentic and stylized form, including craft and pastoral games, songs, melodies and couple dances. The artistic directors of the ensemble are Mr. and Mrs. Emilie and Mr. Jiří Slavík, the leader of the dulcimer music is Martin Gelnar and the organizational leader and chairman of the association is Roman Gorný.
Since its founding in 1991, the ensemble has won numerous awards, including two top prizes at the 53rd International Folklore Festival in Dijon, France in 1999. The ensemble has performed more than 1,200 performances at home and abroad, including participation in major international folklore festivals, and has released three CDs.
